Hi, I love how you are running this blog. I just started a blog of my own and I was wondering if you would like to do a link exchange with my site. My site can be found at:

    Absolutesportsreport.blogspot.com

If you want to do this, just leave a comment on my site, on any post, and I’ll link you later that night.

    Thanks,
    Dave

What else do you need? Although I plan on voting for RP, I find his views on a woman’s reproductive rights frightening (and I take those rights very personally). It was hinted at by Leno’s asking how many babies RP has delivered.

Although I think it is a president’s job to worry about the economy, foreign affairs, tax, etc. but not reproductive rights, that’s why I support RP even though I worry about his other views. Some issues have to take precedence.

    • Madam_Reporter says:

I completely agree with what you say here. Completely.

      • Madam_Reporter says:

Oops. Although I agree that RP’s stance on women’s reproductive rights is frightening, I posted my comment to the wrong area. Sorry.

  3. Dave says:

What else do you need? Well, he’s the favored candidate of David Duke, Stormfront, and other far right racist whackjobs, so he’s got that going for him.

See http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/search?q=ron+paul for more, including a choice quote from a poster at Stormfront:

Anyone who doesn’t vote for Paul on this site is an assclown. Sure he doesn’t come right out and say he is a WN [white nationalist], who cares! He promotes agendas and ideas that allow Nationalism to flourish. If we “get there” without having to raise hell, who cares; aslong as we finally get what we want. I don’t understand why some people do not support this man, Hitler is dead, and we shall probably never see another man like him.

Pat Buchanan’s book “Where the Right Went Wrong” is a prime example of getting the point across without having the book banned for anti semitism. The chapters about the war in Iraq sound like a BarMitzvah, but he doesn’t have to put the Star of David next to each name for us to know what he means. We are running out of options at this point, and I will take someone is 90% with us versus any of the other choices.

Not to mention if Paul makes a serious run, he legitimizes White Nationalism and Stormfront, for God’s sake David Duke is behind this guy!

    • Chuck Ponzi says:

I hardly think that is an example that he is a white nationalist. If you do look at what Ron Paul has on his platform, he’s all for solving problems at home… If you watched the video, you’d know that the most likely outcome of an imperialist agenda is a loss of civil liberties at home.

Wouldn’t his desire to preserve civil liberties be in direct opposition to your beliefs stated above?

Or, do you believe he is just another sycophant trying to grab power? I honestly want to know.

I need to know how many tinfoil hats to order for our next meeting.

    • carlivar says:

For the folks complaining about the right-wing nutjobs supporting Ron Paul, such as David Duke… just keep this quotation in mind:

“He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.”
      -Thomas Paine

Though I disagree with what David Duke has to say, I will defend his right to say it. Anyone who has lost sight of this nature of freedom needs to take a look at the principles upon which our nation is founded.

It’s not that Paul might be a closet white supremacist (although he has published some, it’s that many of his ideas (dismatle the Fed and IRS, withdraw from the UN, etc.) are coming out of the same background as the far right folks. They’ve just been laundered of the more explicit racism and anti-semitism.

Dave Neiwert says it better: “his history is replete with far-right dalliances, and more importantly, many of his current positions are taken directly from the extremist right, and in fact embody the propagation of their longtime agenda.”

There is some evidence that Paul is something of a neo-confederate (http://sandefur.typepad.com/fr.....l-a-c.html). And while that auther doesn’t think he’s a Domionist, he is supported by his former staffer Gary North, who has also said:

“So let us be blunt about it: we must use the doctrine of religious liberty to gain independence for Christian schools until we train up a generation of people who know that there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government. Then they will get busy in constructing a Bible-based social, political and religious order which finally denies the religious liberty of the enemies of God.”

I admit that some of Paul’s positions are attractive at first glance, but for me, it’s pretty hard to get excited by somebody so popular with such a variety of nuts, Birchers, Counsel of Conservative Citizens types, neo-Nazis, etc.

  5. James says:

Thanks for the posting on Paul. From what I gather a lot of kooky people are attracted to Paul because his ideas are seemingly unconventional.

BUT – from what I can tell Paul himself does not hold these views. For example he has repudiated the idea that 9/11 was an ‘inside job’ and he not hold domionist views. You’ll note that none of these individuals “birchers”, “Truthers”, “Confederates”, etc. work at his congressional office or at his campaign HQ.

Paul seems more like an old fashioned conservative in the vein of Goldwater or Reagan. Many of his ideas are libertarian, but he’s also a social conservative, so there is a lot there to like if you take the time to research him thorougly.

  6. Daveg says:

I have noticed this type of smear campaign starting over the last ten days or so. What the hell is this person talking about?

The stuff Ron Paul is pledging to do is not the least bit controversial, and not even that new. We don’t have to have military bases all over the world, we don’t need nearly as much government spending. We need to get our civil liberties back.

Ron Paul is about as controversial as Ronald Regan.

I’ll tell you wants radical – arresting American citizens and holding them in jail without charging them. That is what dangerous jack booted thug would do.

Well President George Bush did just that. And the rest of the Republicans want to continue that policy.

As far as abortion, Ron Paul just wants to send it back to the states. Do you think California will EVER, EVER, EVER ban abortion. Impossible.

Nor will most of the other states.

    Who is this kook Dave?

  7. Daveg says:

It’s not that Paul might be a closet white supremacist (although he has published some, it’s that many of his ideas (dismatle the Fed and IRS, withdraw from the UN, etc.) are coming out of the same background as the far right folks.

Coming out of the same background? WTF?!

Conservatives have been talking about reducing taxes and eliminating the IRS for years! I think there are some other Republican candidates that want to get out of the UN. Israel hates the F*ing UN!

Ron Paul gets most of his ideas from the Austrian School of Economics, which had many Jews as the founders(!) you moron.

I have never seen a more uniformed idiotic post in my life.

  8. Bart says:

Ron Paul might do better than people think in Iowa. I am from the Quad Cities area, and he is pretty popular for Republican candidates. Finally someone with the balls to stand up to the insanity of the Neo-Kook message.
I hope he is not a closet white nationalist, I doubt it. I am more liberal than most of what I read in this comments section, so I have a hard time with some of his conservative stands. However I am so freaking weary of Abortion as a national issue, at this point maybe Abortion should be decided by the states, it will never get overturned in the big states, but that’s up to women.

Dave talking about “Assclown”, you know the subject well.

  9. James Scamman Jr says:

    Far Right = Anarchy
    Conservative = Centrist

what America calls the Far Right is no more than Fascism which is a 1st cousin to Communism, aka the Far Left.

Read Nelson Hultberg to understand how Conservatism is a centrist’s answer to Socialism which destroyed the USSR, is destroying America (because it’s a Ponzi scheme) and is losing credibility in China (because they’re actually smart little bastards)

  10. Robert says:

I too am tired of the political game. Ron Paul is not my man and neither is Rudy or flip flop flip Romney (Mr. Politician). I weeding them out. Brownback is gone. Thompson is looking worse and worse. There is one that I am hopeful about, but I am still waiting to see how it pans out.

I am liking the Fair Tax and goodbye to the IRS as we know it. No taxes on working extra jobs and savings… I like this. If you are a spender than you get taxed. When you save you don’t.

You want to buy a home than work and save… produce something!

  11. Robert says:

Conservatism isn’t the problem …. it is the game players and power brokers.

I am not going to go with the party line. I’m liking a candidate they are trying to pound on right now.

What is unbelievable to me is Romney’s 50 million spent so far!!! Romney is a politician.

Ron Paul isn’t going to be any good beyond stirring the pot. He is too radical and will not attract the majority of voters. Besides he wants to run from the terrorists and hide his head in the sand. I like a lot of what he says, but there is a lot that I don’t like.

Well, I’m watching and beginning to commit, but Ron Paul nor Romney nor Rudy nor Thompson get my vote and McCain, I respect him for his service and sacrifice, but I like others better.

Conservatism isn’t the problem. True conservatives don’t usually get a shot… but we have a couple in the primary this time which is rare. They aren’t the big names.. they are the little names. I encourage you to look carefully.

I think he is actually gaining some traction….

Check out this old video of him… Absolute comedy… I love it….

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=88REf0tjZHo

But a last he isnt polished enough and probably to in touch with what is actually happening in the world…

  13. Robert says:

Realistically, I doubt any of us will find a candidate that we totally agree with. We should then try to find the candidate that is most closely consistent with the issues we value the most.

I am so tired of the party politics. The party power brokers, media, and “ruling elite/rich” have continually deceived the voting public. They have tried to insure that no populist candidate would get past the primaries. They have been all too successful.

They love it when there are shrill candidates because they are easily labeled as crazy and dismissed/defeated. The workable candidate cannot be shrill.

I think we have a populist candidate that is even keel and is not easily dismissed. That candidate is now becoming a threat and they are beginning to pull out the stops to try to blunt the rising tide. The candidate is not flush with cash (looks like the rich are backing other horses). However, the candidate is growing more and more flush with grassroot followers everyday.

I understand a lot of folks are very interested in Ron Paul. What surprises me is how many blogs in this vein are inserting Paul political messages in what is usually an economics centered site. I think that folks who care enough to take the time and effort to publish a site like this think Paul has something to offer.

Personally I worry about Dr. Paul and his views on international policy and taking the fight to the Islamic terrorists. His past “truther” type statements (yes I know he has worked to distance himself from them) really shocked me, and I am not sure that someone running for president can be trusted at all ever if they think the folks in the US military or the intelligence community would ever for an instant allow or execute something like this on US soil. Just says to me that the fellow maybe does not appreciate the degree of patriotism of commitment from the people who have devoted their lives to keep us safe.

That being said, I think at this stage of the 2008 race everyone should back who they like and let the votes sort it out.

  15. Zarathustra says:

” Just says to me that the fellow maybe does not appreciate the degree of patriotism of commitment from the people who have devoted their lives to keep us safe.”

The men and women in uniform donated more money to Ron Paul than to any other candidate, because they do not necessarily want to lose their life or any body parts for a lost cause. People should listen to what the soldiers want. Get them out of Iraq and bring them home.

  16. newspaper says:

Being endorsed by people that you do not agree with has already been handled deftly by Reagan, paraphrasing here

“I welcome the endorsement of all law abiding citizens. Although they may agree with my views, it does not mean that I agree with theirs”
