		<description>An empire replacing the Republic?  Dude, we&#039;ve been an empire since the Spanish American War.

The main difference between then and now is, we&#039;re now the only superpower on the planet, meaning, we are the only empire on the entire planet.  It&#039;s been this way since 1989 or so.

What we&#039;re experiencing is more like the first murmurs of the empire potentially collapsing, because of the global credit bubble destabilizing economies.

Also, socialism has always rescued capitalism.</description>
